Who We Are

Goal

... program for socio-economic growth to create the hope of a better life through the sponsorship of projects in education, health care, poverty alleviation and other sectors in Bangladesh and other developing countries.

Mission Statement

We shall promote the spirit of giving in our community and work to become partners in development and progress in societies worldwide.

History

Several members of the Calgary Bangladesh community initiated the Alliance for Progress Worldwide, a volunteer based organization, in 1994.

Our philosophy is that as members of the global community we should encourage all Canadians to support the advancement of youth in developing nations such as Bangladesh.

Current Focus

Our current focus is high school education in Bangladesh. We value scholarships and high quality education as a requirement of advancement of societies. A school is selected in Bangladesh for sponsorship based on applications received from members of the community who came from Bangladesh.

With more funds available, we hope to develop a program to provide computers to the schools. We plan to twin some schools in Bangladesh with schools in our community and participate in teacher training.

Resources

Our resources are the spirit of giving and volunteering in the community. We shall raise funds through direct contribution of the members of our community. We shall also hold fund raising events and work in association with other charitable and non-profit organizations.

Accountability

Funds are managed and administered by a Board of Trustees and used to provide financial support to school projects in need.

Volunteers within the organization have a close link to the sponsored schools to further promote accountability.

Criteria for Success

To improve the quality of education by using 100% of the funds donated to purchase:

  • Textbooks
  • lab equipment
  • furniture and supplies
  • sports equipment, and

to fund scholarships. Our aim is to make a contribution to enhance both the qualitative and quantitative aspects of education.
