Minutes of Meeting- 16th March, 2008

Members Present: Jasimuz Zaman, Al Mamun, M. Kabir, Ahmed Habib, Tajul
Islam, Topaz, Shams, Alam Khandaker, Shamim Hannan, Nowsher Ali,

Meeting started with giving a vote of thanks by Jasimuz Zaman for
special contribution by Topaz, Shams and Mamun.

Major Discussions and follow-up Responsibility

A: Increasing Fund collection taking the advantage of tax exempt status

There are several suggestions to increase fund raising presented by
trustee members. Based on overall discussions, following issues are
decided to take into action.

1. Communicate with individual corporate human resources
to know the company policy about Charity, Responsibility: Everyone.
2. Communicate with Bill Richards, Vinay Dey, Omar Amal:
Jasimuz Zaman
3. Post internet Advertisement to get exposure to media,
Responsibility: Topaz & Shams
4. Communicate with CBC/Calgary Herald Book Collection
program to collect books to distribute in Bangladeshi Schools : Ahmed
Habib.
5. Send a representative to Capacity Alberta at 20th
March : Jasimuz Zaman / Alam Khondaker

B. Major Decision about School Funding

1. No fund will be disbursed to schools unless they
provided finalized expenditure.
2. Schools reports should be carefully edited by Sponsor
and then get signed & returned.
3. School Application must be received by April 30, 2008
4. School Application should conform new format.

C. Logo Selection:

Upon discussion by the members attended the meeting, it was decided to
select 30.Jpg file and proposed some request regarding color
combination and Arch colors: Topaz and Shams will communicate with
the artist, Huma, and then finalize the logo. They will send the final
logo
for using it in Letterhead, receipt books, etc.

We raised nearly $25,000.00 in our fund raising dinner and cultural show
in 2007.
With your help and participation, we certainly can raise $50,000.00 this
year.

HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL PROGRAM.

Hello Trustees/Attendees,
I am sorry for very late posting. Please find the summarized MOM of
16th Februray session below.
Present: Mohammad Kabir, Ahmed Habib, Tazul Kazol, Alam Khandaker,
Mosharraf Hossain, Abdus Salam Khan, Mohammad Nahidul Islam, ANM
Shamsuddoha, Hamdul Hannan, Nowsher Ali, Joydip Sanyal, Shekar Kr.
Sanyal, Mohammad Rashid, Minu Moinul, Jasimuz Zaman, Thomas khondaker,
Mohammad Al-Mamun

Meeting started with special thanks to Dr Jasimuz zaman and other
trustees /members for helping to get tax exemption status from Revenue
Canada.

Major Decisions:
1. School Annual Report Closing Day: March 31, 2008
2. New Application Submission Date: April 30, 2008
3. School application advertisement will be in APW and Bangladesh
association website.
4. New Application form to be circulated by Dr Jasimuz zaman and
already circulated.
5. Funding Areas to be considered:
a. Science Lab ( Equipments, Chemicals and Furnitures
b. Library ( Books and Furnitures)
c. Classroom ( Benches, black board etc)
d. Infrastructure improvement ( Add a room for
library/Science lab etc)
e. Computer for selected schools based on need and proposal
f. Funding for special coaching ( for SSC Exam preparation)
g. Scholarship( By merit and two for very needy students)

6. A meeting will be organized with school representatives in
Bangladesh when Mr Abdullah and Mr Moinul Islam visit Bangladesh.
7. Called a meeting in March 16th for fundraising activities and dinner
etc.
8. A logo will be prepared by an Artist and will be finalized in
upcoming meeting.

Other decisions:
1. Letterhead and receipt book will be prepared after adopting logo.
2. School Assesment criteria to be finalized by Dr Jasimuz zaman by
coordination with Mamun. Already circulated to members.
3. Website improvement will be done in future ( Attendee list to be
included as member in our website)

Discussions/Miscellaneous:
1. Professor Sanyal attended our meeting who was a professor in a
college in Bangladesh for a long time. He was asked to talk about most
important school funding areas. He proposed computer and internet can
be a very effective option to improve learning for students.
2. School funding areas discussed by various participants (Alam
Khandaker, Nahidul Islam, M. Kabir, Rashid, Tazul Kajal, M. Al-Mamun
and others)
3. Tax exemption status regulations introduced by Moinul Islam.

1. School funding


We receive applications for funding schools in developing countries for improving educational facilities. Our current focus is to select schools in Bangladesh. In this magazine, you shall find the following:
• Application form for schools
• School selection criteria
• A typical AGREEMENT with the school

2. Income Tax Preparation Services


We provide income tax preparation services to needy persons in the community. Please look for the announcement in our website, emails or talk to our Board of Trustee members.
The service is provided by professionals and client confidentiality is maintained.
Eligibility: As per Revenue Canada rules, to receive this service free of charge, your annual income should have the following maximum:
Single- $18000.00
Spouse with one child- $25000.00
Spouse with two children - $27000.00
You should bring with you- T4 slip, any other T slip, and Last years NOA, Children’s education and related papers

3. Resume Writing Services


APW offers resume writing service for deserving job seekers. The information may be obtained in the same way as above.
Eligibility: As per Revenue Canada rules, to receive this service free of charge, your annual income should have the following maximum:
Single- $18000.00
Spouse with one child- $25000.00
Spouse with two children - $27000.00
You need to bring your last year’s Income Tax Return as proof of your eligibility.

Re: 3rd Alberta Bangla Conference

I wish to congratulate the organizers of the annual Alberta Bangla Conference for promoting the Bangla cultural at the same time supporting charitable causes. We wish your event all success and would like to offer our voluntary services.
We are a charitable organization registered in Alberta with the name Alliance For Progress Worldwide – A Charitable Foundation (APW). Our objectives are as follows:
a. To help education in developing countries.
b. To provide support to the disadvantaged in the community
c. To provide a forum to Calgary youth to demonstrate their talents in cultural activities, leadership and teamwork.
d. To direct youth energy in Calgary in constructive direction.
Currently we have three schools in Bangladesh where we provide financial support to specific activities. The specific activities include:
a. Laboratory development (equipments, supplies and infrastructure)
b. Library development (books and infrastructure)
c. Class room supplies and furniture
In the Calgary community, we hold sessions for tax returns and resume preparation for the low income immigrants and provide support for food banks. We have a vibrant youth group and we support them to hold an Annual Talent Show and other events of interest to them. They volunteer in all events of our organization and raise funds for the youth in developing countries.

Bangladeshi Community, especially New Canadians, we plan to hold a Tax
Clinic. Mr. Shamsul Huda has kindly agreed to volunteer his services and
will prepare your 2004 Income Tax Return in strict confidentiality. To be
eligible for this service your Gross income for 2004 should not exceed
$....... The details of the clinic are as follows:
